Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

One of the more common repetitive strain injuries, carpal tunnel syndrome affects the hand and fingers. It is caused by repetitive work with the hands, and as such can affect workers in many different fields.

If you develop carpal tunnel syndrome as a result of your working environment, Croftons Solicitors may be able to help you with a compensation claim.

Causes and symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome

The carpal tunnel is actually found in the wrist, and it is here that the median nerve is found. When this nerve becomes compressed, it causes carpal tunnel syndrome.

This manifests itself in a tingling sensation of the fingers, while other symptoms include aching hands and pins and needles.

Repetitive actions with the hands are a feature of many jobs, from office workers typing on a computer to factory or construction staff involved in constant lifting tasks.

It is also thought to be caused if the worker regularly uses vibrating tools during the course of their work.

This equipment places a great deal of strain on the wrists and hands, and indeed if proper precautions are not taken to safeguard workers it can cause other repetitive strain injuries such as vibration white finger.

Making a compensation claim

Like any industrial disease, carpal tunnel syndrome may leave you unable to work for a period of time, and this can result in lost wages.

Coupled with the pain and disruption the condition may cause to your everyday life, if it can be shown that your employer could have done more to prevent the problem then Croftons Solicitors can help you claim compensation.

For example, in cases where heavy lifting or equipment was a contributing factor, your employer should have ensured the correct training was given to prevent industrial diseases from occurring.
