A recent survey of 500 consumers has found that 26% of them would go to one of three recognised brands, namely Tescos, the Co-operative  or the AA, for legal advice but 74% would choose a traditional law firm.

The same survey found that only 3% of consumers rated a recognisable brand such as Tesco, the Co-operative or the AA but also found that personal recommendation was the most important factor in choosing a lawyer, namely 43%.

We believe that these figures are extremely encouraging for good law firms who really value their clients. Why is it that when it comes to buying groceries so many of us choose mediocrity through a local supermarket rather than choosing a more bespoke quality service and products from independent butchers/farm shops? The answer usually lies in convenience, opening hours, customer service etc.

As almost half of consumers rely on personal recommendation, shouldn’t all traditional law firms be now providing the convenience and flexibility that clients require to ensure future recommendations? Our mission statement at Croftons is to seek to exceed client’s expectations and we strive to do this in a variety of ways which includes the high level of service offered, our personal approach, fighting for the best results for our clients, but we also offer our clients contact in a way that suits them i.e. by text, email, out of hours phone calls.  Our own iPhone app, The Accident App, is a further method which we have sought to offer additional facilities to our clients.

We believe it is not acceptable to allow 26% of the legal market to go to recognised brands when most of those consumers themselves don’t even rate those brands. The challenge to all traditional law firms is simply not to allow consumers to be disappointed by a brand experience when we are confident we can provide a better package ourselves.
