Home > Who Says Exercise is Good For Your Health?!
We all know that exercise is good for us, whatever our age or circumstances. We are encouraged to get fit and there is endless marketing of exercise equipment!
“Mr B was given a chest expander as a Christmas gift,” says Victoria Slater, personal injury specialist at Croftons Solicitors. “He soon put it to good use but disaster struck. One of the plastic handles snapped, causing the expander to hit him in the face. Worse still, the accident knocked out a number of teeth and caused a large gash which required multiple stitches,” adds Vicky. “Months of dental work followed and Mr B was told he would need replacement teeth at 10-yearly intervals for the rest of his life. Compensation has helped to plan for this.”

“Enthusiastic about his new cross trainer, a client of mine was using the machine when a pedal snapped causing him to fall,” adds Lee Jones, also a personal injury specialist at Croftons. “My client suffered leg and knee injuries and couldn’t go to work for a while.”

Lee and Vicky say that these examples are not the only cases they have seen. “Before buying exercise equipment, it is always important to check the safety features and, when using equipment at home, be aware that is may not be the same as in a professional gym.”
Anyone injured as a result of using equipment, should record the circumstances, take photographs and obtain details of witnesses (The Accident App can help do this). Any accident should also be reported formally at the accident site.
