Croftons Injury Claims

Over 23 million days were lost during 2009/2010 through workplace injury, according to Health & Safety Executive statistics.  Some of these accidents at work were caused by the actions of colleagues.

“Take my client Mr A, a postal worker who stopped to pick up a parcel which had fallen.  He was hit by a fellow worker pushing his mail trolley.  Obviously the accident was an accident, but it left Mr A with back injuries which brought his retirement forward by a year.  We were able to help him recover lost earnings as well as some compensation for his accident,” says Vicky Slater, Personal Injury Specialist at Croftons.

“We often find that when accidents are caused by colleagues it’s because they haven’t realised that what they are doing could be unsafe.  Take Mr N who worked in a timber yard.  Although the timber was neatly stacked when it was delivered to the yard, as orders were filled staff would pull timber from different levels.  This caused the stack to become unstable.  When Mr N was filling an order, the stack collapsed, injuring his foot and fracturing a toe,” says Vicky.

“Work days lost isn’t the only consequence of such accidents,” adds Vicky. “There is often a knock-on effect on a person’s life, family situation, holiday plans or other events.”

Anyone injured at work should record the circumstances, take photographs and obtain details of witnesses (The Accident App can help you do this).  Any accident should also be reported formally at the accident site.
