A chart-topping DJ fears he has been left with permanent hearing loss after an incident at a Manchester nightclub.
US star Lil Louis, who achieved three Number One dance hits in the 80s and 90s and is known as ‘The Founding Father of House’, told fans he was forced to pull out of a planned appearance at popular city centre nightspot Sankeys on Saturday (January 24th) after an incident during his soundcheck.
He alleged that a member of staff entered his sound booth and let off an air horn just inches from his left ear. Describing the sound as “louder and more shrill than anything I’d ever heard”, the musician reported “intense ringing and muffled silence” following the incident. He was reportedly taken to hospital and diagnosed with noise induced hearing loss.
Lil Louis added that he was worried his career may be affected by the incident if his hearing does not recover, but it is not clear whether he plans to make a hearing loss claim in the wake of the incident.
Dealing with different kinds of hearing loss
In many of the hearing loss cases we deal with here at Croftons Solicitors, the damage to the victim’s hearing is caused by several years of working in a noisy environment, with symptoms not becoming apparent until several years after the event.
This incident shows a slightly different sort of hearing loss, where a single incident has left the victim with potentially lasting damage. While Lil Louis is a well known figure within his chosen profession, his situation is in many ways no different to the hearing loss victims we have helped.
Many victims see their personal and professional lives affected by hearing loss, and we have acted in cases involving both temporary and permanent damage.
In addition, these venues have a responsibility towards guests and artists, and we may be able to assist victims who suffer an injury in a nightclub that was not their fault.
