Croftons Solicitors have helped secure £7,000 compensation for an employee who suffered a frightening attack while working at a children’s home.
The support worker was assaulted by a youth at the facility, suffering physical injuries and psychological damage as a result.
It transpired that the assailant was known to be potentially dangerous, but no adequate risk assessment had been carried out on him when he returned to the home following a spell in prison.
These facts were enough to show negligence on behalf of the victim’s employer, and Croftons Solicitors were able to act on her behalf to ensure she received the appropriate compensation, medical care and emotional support.
The client was very positive about the team’s handling of her case. She said: “I found Croftons to be a very professional and reliable company. My solicitor was very caring and supportive of my needs.”
Claiming for injuries suffered at work
Your employer has a duty to ensure your work environment is safe, and in this case there has been a clear failure to achieve this. No one should have to suffer an assault in the workplace, and it was proved that the employer could and should have done more to prevent this attack.
Businesses must adequately risk assess a work environment. Studies have shown that the protective and education industries are both high risk when it comes to potential assaults, so it is clear that facilities such as children’s homes need to be more vigilant. The health sector and any environment in which patrons consume alcohol have also been highlighted as areas of concern.
If you suffer an injury at work and think your employer was to blame, you can ask the experts at Croftons Solicitors on 0800 2800 094, or use the enquiry form. We will assess your circumstances and advise you on what to do next.
