At Croftons Solicitors, we are well aware of the problems faced by victims of tinnitus every day. The upcoming Tinnitus Awareness Week (February 3rd-9th) aims to provide support for those dealing with the condition across the country.
Organised by the British Tinnitus Association (BTA), the event seeks to encourage people to discuss the problem and share information about the practical help available to victims, particularly in the early stages of the problem.
Their figures indicate that one in ten people in Britain suffers from some form of tinnitus, with the most severe cases known to affect sleep, concentration and general quality of life.
Information collected by the BTA last year indicates that just 77% of those who developed tinnitus went to a GP for help. Of this number, only 13% were told about the extra support provided by the BTA.
It seems that sufferers often do not know where to turn for help, and may feel that there is nothing they can do to help alleviate the constant irritation frequently posed by tinnitus.
Tinnitus Awareness Week hopes to change this, and the event is set to tour the UK offering advice in a range of locations, including a few stops in the Greater Manchester area.
Monday 3rd February will see stands available at Textile Hall in Bury and at Tameside Hospital in Ashton under Lyne for people who would like more information about tinnitus, while the organisation will be at Manchester Deaf Centre on Wednesday 5th.
