Award of £2000 for scarring of thumb

Whilst working in a coffee shop, Miss M of Leeds caught her thumb on a piece of metal and has now been left with a permanent scar which extends to the knuckle of her thumb.

Our client had been told by her employer to clean the premises ready for inspection and began to clean an industrial, metal bin frame (the bin had been removed and was being washed by a colleague). The frame was not securely fixed to the wall, which meant that it moved easily and as she was scrubbing dirt away from the frame her thumb was lacerated by a sharp piece of metal.

Thankfully she retains a full range of movement, sensation and normal strength. Unfortunately, Miss M does continue to suffer from sensitivity around the scar in cold weather but medical opinion confirms that this will soon settle down. Chloe Shivraj negotiated the settlement for this client in respect of her injury and associated losses.
